Vent: My kid asked me why I still keep my old tool belt in the garage
Honestly, I heard him say 'it's just a bunch of old junk' to his friend and it hit me. I used to fight with that belt every day on jobs, but now it's just a memory of when my hands were my main tool. Anyone else have a piece of gear that marks a real change in how you work?

That line about your hands being your main tool. It's not just the belt, right? It's the specific wear on it. The exact spot the leather is worn thin from your hip, or that one tool loop that's stretched out from your go-to wrench. What's the one mark on it that tells the real story?

Yeah, "when my hands were my main tool" got me. I still have my first chef's knife from when I was a line cook. It's beat up and I don't use it, but I can't let it go.
