Unpopular opinion: that $70 foam roller did more for my bad knee than 6 weeks of physical therapy
I hurt my right knee stepping off a curb back in April. Went to PT twice a week for 6 weeks at $40 a visit. They gave me printouts of quad sets and told me to do them at home. I did maybe half of them.
My sister dropped off a cheap foam roller she never used. I started rolling my IT band and quad 10 minutes a night while watching TV, mostly because it was sitting right there and easier than the printouts.
Three weeks in I could walk down stairs without holding the rail. My PT never mentioned rolling once. I'm not saying PT is useless, the first two weeks got me out of the worst of it. But $240 versus a hand me down roller that fixed the actual problem, I know which one I'd pick again.
Anyone else find the home remedy beat the professional thing for them, or did I just get a lazy clinic?
Wow, your PT never even mentioned foam rolling once? That kind of blows my mind since mine had me doing it on day one for my hip. It sounds like your clinic just handed you papers and sent you on your way. Good on you for figuring it out yourself.
