Unpopular opinion: my brother in law says grind harder, but my $60 a week side gig died when I stopped beating myself up over it
So my brother in law pulled me aside at a birthday party in Madison last Saturday and gave me this whole speech about how the problem is I just do not want it bad enough, that he worked 70 hour weeks for 2 years and that is the only reason he has anything. Here is the thing, I did that for about 8 months with a side gig reselling stuff off Marketplace and I made maybe $60 a week before I burned out and let it sit for 3 weeks. Once I cut it down to 5 hours a week and let go of the guilt, I actually started making money because I was not dreading it. So now I keep going back and forth on whether he is right and I am just soft, or whether the grind guilt thing was the actual thing holding me back. Part of me thinks some people do need the pressure, and part of me thinks I just needed to stop treating a small thing like a second job. I honestly cannot tell if I found a better way or if I just found a comfy excuse. Curious if anyone here had a problem that got easier once they stopped trying so hard, or is that just cope?
