TIL the average American spends $1,400 a year on lottery tickets
I was looking at my bank statements last night trying to figure out where my money goes. Found a random article from the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries that said the average person drops $1,400 a year on scratch-offs and Powerball. That's more than I spend on my car insurance. Has anyone else checked their own lottery spending habits and been surprised?

$1,400 a year? That's almost a car payment for a beater... or like, a really nice weekend trip. I checked my own scratch-off habit once and realized I was basically paying a monthly subscription to lose. At least Netflix gives me something to watch instead of just a paper with losing numbers.

At least Netflix doesn't leave a pile of foil confetti in your car.
