The old me would jump into a project without measuring once, now I draw everything out on graph paper first.

I used to just eyeball distances when rearranging my workshop layout and end up with tools jammed in corners. After 3 times of moving the same workbench over a weekend, I sat down with measurements and a pencil and figured out the exact setup I wanted. Who here still wings it versus plans everything down to the inch before touching anything?

Didn't your buddy try to build a shelf without any measurements and it came out completely crooked?

The whole "just wing it" approach to stuff like that is actually super common. So many people think they can eyeball measurements or skip the prep work because they're in a hurry or just confident. But nine times out of ten that's exactly how you end up with a crooked shelf or a lopsided picture frame. It's like the universe has a built-in penalty for skipping the basic steps. Maybe it's just me, but I've noticed that pattern with everything from furniture assembly to cooking, not just building stuff.
