That moment the AC quit in July in Phoenix

I was in my home office in Phoenix last July right at 2pm. The air conditioner just stopped blowing cold air and the temp inside hit 95 degrees fast. I spent like 3 hours on YouTube and forums figuring out it was a bad capacitor. Found the exact part at a local supply house for $15 and had it fixed myself by 6pm. Anyone else had to learn HVAC basics the hard way when you least expected it?

Honestly, I used to be in the same boat as you kelly. I thought anyone messing with AC stuff was asking for trouble, especially with the high voltage. But that day in Phoenix changed my mind completely. When it's 115 outside and your house is turning into an oven, you start looking at things differently. I watched a few videos, made sure I turned the power off at the breaker and the disconnect outside, and checked every step twice. It's not about being brave, it's about being desperate and careful at the same time. That $15 fix saved me from waiting days for a repair guy in July, and honestly I felt pretty proud I didn't have to pay someone $300 just to swap a capacitor.

Man, I gotta say I don't really get the big deal about fixing it yourself. You got lucky it was just a capacitor, but most people shouldn't be messing with 240 volts unless they really know what they're doing. Sounds like you risked way more than $15 in saved labor to me.
