Shoutout to the guy at the car shop who told me my oil change schedule was overkill

I always changed my oil every 3,000 miles like clockwork because my dad swore by it. This mechanic in Tulsa said modern synthetic can easily go 7,500 miles, and after trying his way for 2 years my engine runs fine and I saved close to $200 a year. Has anyone else dropped an old habit because an expert pushed back on it?

Hated to admit my dad was wrong about something car-related, but when that same mechanic showed me the actual oil analysis results from my engine, I couldn't argue. Switched to 7,500 mile intervals on my Tacoma three years ago and haven't had a single issue. Saved around $150 a year and learned that sometimes the old school advice is just outdated.

I changed my Subaru at 3,000 miles for years too... My mechanic in Portland showed me my oil analysis and talked me into 6,000 mile intervals. Saved me about $100 a year and the engine still runs smooth at 120k miles.
