My plumber in Albuquerque said 'You can't fix a leak with a bigger bucket' and it clicked
I was complaining about my basement sump pump failing again for the third time this year. He looked at the whole setup, pointed at a crack in the foundation I kept ignoring, and said that line. It hit me that I've been doing this with a lot of my problems, just dealing with the mess instead of the real cause. For six months I've been buying new pumps and mopping up, wasting maybe $400. I'm tired of just reacting. Has anyone else had to stop themselves from just grabbing the bucket and actually fix the root of a problem?

Honestly, how many times have I bought a longer charging cable instead of just fixing the loose outlet? Tbh I'm the king of workarounds. Ngl, I once used an old textbook to prop up a wobbly table leg for like two years instead of just tightening a screw. That plumber is right, but man is it hard to stop grabbing the bucket.

Yeah that's a solid line from your plumber. I've done the same thing with my car, kept topping up the oil instead of fixing the leak. You gotta force yourself to ask "what's causing this" every single time something breaks, even if the fix seems bigger and scarier. It's always cheaper and less work in the long run, you just have to get past the short term pain of actually dealing with it.
