My buddy swore I needed a CPA to handle my quarterly taxes, I did them on a $40 spreadsheet instead
Everyone in my circle told me I was nuts to skip a CPA for my little pest control gig, said I'd miss deductions and get crushed by the IRS. I bought a $40 spreadsheet template back in January and tracked every mile and chemical receipt myself, and just filed quarter three with no penalties so far. The part nobody mentions is the CPA wanted $600 a quarter, which is a big chunk of what I clear in a slow month. Has anyone actually gotten burned doing their own books this way or am I just waiting for the other shoe to drop?
