I hit 500 rejections on my short stories and it felt like a win

I've been sending out stories for three years and kept a spreadsheet, expecting to feel bad when I hit that number. When the 500th 'no thanks' email came in last Tuesday, I actually felt relieved because it meant I was still trying. Has anyone else found a weird milestone that made them keep going?

Celebrated my 100th rejection with a beer.

That's actually a really good sign, getting that many rejections means you're putting yourself out there. Most people quit way before they hit that number. I've heard a lot of successful writers and artists talk about their huge piles of rejections. It's just part of the process. You should be proud of the work it took to even get to a hundred no's.
