Finally beat my 2 year war with the laundry pile by picking a 20 minute timer over a whole Saturday morning
I used to save all my laundry for Saturday morning and it would eat 4 hours because I would let it pile up for 3 weeks straight. Last month I tried something different and set a 20 minute timer every night at 8pm and just folded whatever was in the dryer. The timer thing won hands down because I never had to face a mountain of clothes, just one small load. My wife said the bedroom floor has been clear for 21 days now which is a record for us. The Saturday version always lost because I would get mad at myself for wasting a whole morning. Has anyone else beat a chore war by making it small instead of doing it all at once?
Man, I have to push back on this one. Twenty minutes every single night means you are doing laundry 7 times a week, which adds up to over 2 hours anyway, plus you can never just relax at 8pm because the timer is hanging over your head. What happens when you go to a ballgame or out to dinner on a Tuesday? Now you either skip it and feel guilty or you are folding socks at 11pm. The Saturday thing sounds bad but at least it is done in one shot and the rest of your week is actually free. Your wife counting 21 days of a clear floor is cool and all, but you traded one big chore for a small chore you can never escape.
