Can we talk about how 'sleep on it before you reply' is bad advice for some of us?
My old boss in Dayton kept pushing that line after I told him a customer screamed at me over a $180 bill, and waiting just let the anger marinate until I quit two days later. Now I send the reply in 10 minutes while it is still fresh and small, so what do you all do when sitting on it just makes it worse?
Sitting on things only works if the thing is actually gonna cool down on its own. Some stuff just grows teeth the longer it sits there, like a splinter you keep poking at instead of pulling out. Same reason I stopped doing the "wait a day" thing with texts from my sister, because by day two I was drafting a novel instead of just saying what happened. Fresh and small is real advice, the other version just works better for people whose heads don't spiral.
