Appreciation post: My $200 noise canceling headphones were a waste
Everyone says they're a must have for focus, but I bought a pair for my home office. After a week, I felt more cut off and started missing important sounds like the doorbell or my dog whining. I went back to my old $30 wired set and just close the door. Has anyone else found these things make them feel too isolated?

Remember when my friend missed her kid crying because her fancy headphones blocked everything out?

Ugh that's the worst! I just use one earbud now so I can still hear what's going on around me.

Is it really that serious though? I mean, babies cry, it's not like loud music or a vacuum. You'd think a parent would check on their kid every few minutes anyway, not just rely on hearing them. Plus, most modern headphones have a transparency mode you can toggle on. She could have just tapped the side of her AirPods and heard everything fine. Honestly, people act like one moment of distraction is the end of the world but kids survive all sorts of stuff.
