Vent: paid $75 for a label maker at my desk job and it fixed the dumbest problem in the office
I work in records at a county office in Ohio and my whole day is sorting papers into files that all look the same. Our filing room has like 40 shelves and nothing was labeled because the woman who ran it for 22 years retired and took all that info with her. I got so tired of pulling the wrong folder 10 times a day that I bought a $75 label maker on my own dime after 2 months of asking for one. Now every shelf is labeled and I can find stuff in about 5 seconds instead of 5 minutes. The weird part is my boss saw it and asked why I didn't just wait for the budget request to go through in April. So I paid for a work tool myself and somehow I'm the one getting side eye for it. Has anyone else bought their own gear just to make a boring job less terrible, and did your boss give you grief for it too?
