TIL my old job's 10 minute filing system takes 45 minutes now

At my old data entry gig in Tulsa, we had this color coded folder trick where everything got sorted by customer ID, took me 10 minutes tops. Now I work at a warehouse office and the new guy set up a system by last name, so I spent 45 minutes hunting for a single invoice for client #4472. Why do people overcomplicate boring stuff? Has anyone else had a coworker "improve" a system that worked fine and make it worse?
