The time a client's spreadsheet changed how I track my own work

I was at a meeting in St. Louis last month, and a client showed me their color-coded task log with exact timestamps for everything. I used to just keep a messy list, but seeing their system made me switch to logging my hours in 15-minute blocks. Has anyone else had a simple client tool totally change their daily grind?

Remember seeing my buddy's dad run his whole lawn care business off a paper notebook with little symbols for paid, pending, and problem jobs. Looked like ancient code to me, but it worked perfectly for him. Made me realize any system is good if it actually gets used, even if it seems weird at first. Now I just use my phone's notes app with a few basic symbols, way better than my old system of random scraps of paper.

Totally get that. Saw a client using a simple kanban board on a tablet last year. Switched my whole crew to a digital version the next week. Game changer for tracking daily jobs.
