The staff lounge microwave went from biohazard to spotless in one week

I work data entry on the third floor, and our microwave was so crusted over nobody would use it. Last Monday someone left a note taped to it listing every gross stain and demanding a cleaning schedule. By Friday the same guy who wrote it brought in a scrub brush and a box of baking soda, and he spent his lunch break fixing it. Now there's a sign-up sheet for weekly wipe-downs and it's actually being followed. Has anyone else seen one grumpy coworker spark a change like that, or does this stuff normally just stay nasty?
