Rant: I had to pick between a 10 minute break or helping a trainee and I chose wrong
Last Tuesday at the warehouse, my supervisor told me I could either take my 10 minute break or show a new guy how to use the pallet jack. I figured I'd be nice and help him out, since he looked lost. Twenty minutes later, he'd jammed the jack under a rack and nearly knocked over a whole pallet of boxes. I ended up spending the rest of the hour fixing the mess and never got my break. Has anyone else dealt with that kind of choice where being a decent person just backfires?

Doesn't it always seem like doing the right thing is what gets us into the most trouble at work? That new guy probably felt bad too, but now you're stuck with the cleanup and no break which just makes the whole day feel off. It's like the universe punishes you for being helpful, and then you end up second guessing yourself every time.

@wren_walker62 nailed it with that "universe punishes you for being helpful" thing. It's like when you give a little, the world expects a lot more and you're left holding the bag while everyone else bounces. Makes you wonder if being nice is even worth the hassle sometimes.
