Trusted that YouTuber's glue trick and now my spine is ruined

Some booktuber with 200k subs swore by using cheap school glue for mull adhesion... I tried it on a 400 page journal last week and the whole text block just popped clean off the spine today. The glue never actually bonded to the cloth, it just sat there like a skin. Has anyone else had bad luck following popular channel advice, or am I the only one who ended up rebinding the same book twice?
