Talked to a librarian about 'forever books' and it changed my glue choice

Honestly, I was at the main branch downtown last week picking up a book on local history. The head archivist saw my project bag and we got talking. She said something like, 'If you want it to last a hundred years, you have to think like we do.' She meant using reversible, acid-free adhesives, not just what's strong right now. It hit different because I'd been using a standard PVA for everything, even personal projects I wanted to keep. Has anyone else switched to a specific archival glue after a moment like that?

It's wild how one chat can make you rethink your whole process.

Totally get that. Makes you rethink everything you stick together. I switched to a wheat starch paste for book repair after a similar chat. It's a bit more work to make but knowing I can undo it later feels right. Changes how you see every project, like you're part of a longer story.
