Showerthought: I thought the wheat paste guy at the Asheville swap meet was pulling my leg
An older binder named Harold kept telling me to skip the PVA and cook my own wheat paste for a limp leather repair, and I nodded along just to be polite. Two weeks later I tried his recipe on a 1912 hymnal with a torn spine and it dried clear with way less shine than the glue I had been using. Cost me about $4 in flour and an hour at the stove. Now I am wondering what else at that meet I waved off too fast, anybody else have a trick they didn't believe until they tried it?
