Old linen thread from 1968 still holds up great

Found a spool of linen thread in a box my grandpa left behind, dated 1968 from a shop in Portland. I stitched a few practice signatures with it yesterday and the tension felt just as solid as my modern thread. Has anyone else used really old binding thread that still worked fine? I'm wondering if it's worth keeping around for special projects.
