This guy at our Seattle book club argued that 'The Great Gatsby' is a shallow story about rich people's problems, and I've been annoyed about it for a week.

He said, 'It's just a bunch of whining about parties and a green light,' completely missing the whole point about the American Dream, so what's the most frustratingly shallow take you've heard in your club?

Honestly used to think it was just a fancy soap opera too. Then a teacher pointed out how Gatsby built his whole life on a lie, and it kinda hit different.

Yeah that's the part that gets me. But what about Daisy? She knew the whole time, right? Like she saw the shirts and the parties and chose to play along. Makes you wonder who was lying to who.
