The book club meeting where we argued about a lamp for 40 minutes
Last month our group of 8 met at Carol's place in Portland to discuss The Night Circus, but somehow we spent almost the whole time debating whether the mysterious clockmaker was a metaphor for time or just a really weird dude who built lamps. One guy, Steve, pulled up a 6-page essay he wrote about it on his phone, and the rest of us just stared at him. Has anyone else had a meeting completely derail over some minor detail, or is my group just cursed with obsessive nerds?

Our group once spent 45 minutes in a coffee shop arguing if the main character in a book even liked dogs, and my buddy Matt printed out a timeline of every pet mention to prove his point. We now have a rule that any side debate gets cut off after ten minutes and we vote on it, which feels dumb but works.
