That $80 book on debate tactics I bought last year was a total waste
I dropped $80 on a advanced debate tactics book from a specialized publisher after a heated book club argument about historical fiction. Ended up being 300 pages of theory with zero real-world examples for actual group discussions. Has anyone else fallen for a pricey book that just collects dust?

That whole "300 pages of theory with zero real-world examples" thing hits home hard. I grabbed a similar book on negotiation once and it was mostly academic jargon without any actual scripts or case studies for real conversations. A good debate book should have at least one chapter full of transcripts from actual arguments you can learn from.

Did you ever find a book that actually had those transcripts? I had the same problem with a few business books until I stumbled on one that was basically nothing but real courtroom and town hall arguments with notes in the margins. That helped me way more than any theory about debate structures ever did. Sometimes you just need to see how a real back and forth works to get the hang of it yourself. I ended up making my own notes from YouTube debates too, just writing down the exchanges I thought were good.
