That $12 biography I bought on clearance ended up being my favorite read this year

I picked up a beat up copy of a biography about some old scientist at a library sale for pocket change. Thought it would sit on my shelf forever. But I cracked it open on a rainy Tuesday and could not put it down. The writing was so engaging it felt like a thriller. Has anyone else found a hidden gem from a random bargain bin or secondhand shop that completely changed your view on a genre you usually ignore?

Right, because who needs the latest bestseller when you can get a dusty book about someone who died 200 years ago for fifty cents? I grabbed a biography on a forgotten lady astronomer at a garage sale last summer, mostly because the cover had a cool telescope on it. Turns out the author was so good at making history feel like a soap opera I finished it in two days. Now I'm suspicious of any book that costs more than a coffee.

Well ain't that the truth, sometimes the best finds are the ones you least expect.
