Swapped hardcovers for mass market paperbacks in our club, big fight broke out
Our Chicago group has 14 members and we vote on format every quarter. I suggested we all read the MMP edition of a newer thriller to save cash, since hardcovers run $28-32 each. Three members refused, said small print hurts their eyes and they prefer the library's large print. The debate got so loud our host's dog started barking. We ended up splitting the vote and two people dropped out for the month. Has anyone else had format preferences wreck a club dynamic or am I just dealing with stubborn readers?
Fourteen people voting on book format every three months sounds like the real problem, not the paperbacks. Most clubs I know just let folks pick whatever edition they want and nobody polices it.
