Our book club's debate on 'The Midnight Library' got so heated last night we almost lost two members

Sarah stormed out after I said Nora's timeline hopping felt like a cheap plot device instead of real growth, and now I'm wondering if we should just stick to lighter reads for a while, has anyone else had a debate go this sideways?

Used to think those timeline stories were deep but you made me realize they can be a total cop-out for character development. Your point actually shifted my whole take on that book.

75 pages in and the author still hadn't done more than describe the same day over and over from different angles. @jason958 you're right that it can be a crutch. But the one where they used it to show how a single decision changed four different lives actually worked pretty well for me. Timelines get a bad rap but sometimes they serve a real purpose.
