Our book club spent 4 hours arguing about one chapter and I loved every second

Last Tuesday at the downtown library, 7 of us got stuck on page 142 of The Dutch House for almost the whole meeting. Three people thought Tom's decision was pure selfishness, two said it was survival, and I swear one lady almost flipped a table over it. Nobody agreed on a single thing but we all left thinking about the book way more than usual. Has your group ever just let a debate run its course or do you guys cut it off after 15 minutes?

Ngl, my book club did that with a page in Little Fires Everywhere once. We spent an hour debating if the mom was controlling or just trying too hard to be the perfect parent. Our moderator just sat back and watched the chaos like a nature documentary.
