Our book club spent 4 hours arguing about one chapter and I loved every second

Last Tuesday at the downtown library, 7 of us got stuck on page 142 of The Dutch House for almost the whole meeting. Three people thought Tom's decision was pure selfishness, two said it was survival, and I swear one lady almost flipped a table over it. Nobody agreed on a single thing but we all left thinking about the book way more than usual. Has your group ever just let a debate run its course or do you guys cut it off after 15 minutes?
