My dad called me out for skim reading chapter 8, and it stung because he was right

Was on the phone with my dad last Tuesday, telling him about our book club pick this month. He asked what I thought about a specific scene in chapter 8, and I froze. I totally skimmed that part to get to the action. He said "you're missing the whole point if you skip the quiet parts." Hit different because he never reads fiction, but he nailed it. Anyone else had a family member call them out on book club prep?

Oh man, I feel this in my bones. Your dad was blunt but he had a good point.

Ha, I used to roll my eyes at that kind of old-school advice but honestly, it's stuck with me more than I expected. It's funny how the blunt stuff actually works better sometimes.
