Hot take: our club picked the movie tie-in edition over the original cover and it killed the vibe
Our club read The Road last spring and we had a split on which edition to buy. Half of us grabbed the movie tie-in paperback at $16.99 because it was the only copy left at the Barnes & Noble on 5th, the rest ordered the original cover online for $12. I was in the movie tie-in group and I hated it. Every time we met, somebody brought up the film and we spent 20 minutes on casting instead of the actual book, and our discussion of the ending fell apart because two people kept picturing the actors. The original cover group had way more to say about the prose and the gray landscape stuff. Same book, same words, totally different talk. Does your club have rules about which edition you buy, or is it every person for themselves?
