Can we talk about the week our club argued over a book's ending for three meetings straight?

We read 'The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo' and the last chapter split us right down the middle. Half the group, like me, felt the final reveal about the reporter was perfect and emotional. The other half called it a cheap trick that ruined the whole book. We spent over six hours total across three weeks just going in circles, and people got pretty heated, lol. One member even brought printed quotes to the last meeting to prove her point. Has your club ever gotten stuck on one part of a book for that long?

That reporter twist felt totally unearned to me.

Actually, the reporter twist was set up from the very first chapter. The book opens with Monique getting the assignment specifically because Evelyn asked for her, which we all just accepted at face value. Looking back, that was the first clue something deeper was going on.

Our club once spent a month fighting over the ending of Gone Girl.
