Rant: a kid on my crew said certs don't matter, then he watched me cut a tube sheet
We were welding on a small boiler in Gary, Indiana two weeks back and this 22 year old helper kept saying the ASME stamp on the wall was just paper. I let him run a pass on a practice plate, and it looked like a beaded necklace, so I took over and put down a stringer he could stack a nickel on. He went quiet for about an hour, then asked me where he could sign up for the test. My point is, the cert is not a badge you hang up, it is proof you can do this when a shop is watching. Anyone else deal with new guys who think the paperwork is just a formality until the X ray comes back?
