I picked a 3/8 wall tube over schedule 40 for a high-pressure steam line repair

The extra thickness cost more upfront, but it handled the 250 PSI surge last week without a single issue. Anyone else had to make a call like that on a tight budget?

Buddy of mine cheaped out on a condenser line last year. Thing blew a seam during a pressure spike and flooded his mechanical room. Sometimes that extra cost up front is just cheap insurance.

That's a rough one, @adam652. Did your buddy at least have a floor drain in that mechanical room or was it just a total loss? I've seen a burst line take out a furnace control board and a water heater in one shot. Makes you wonder what the actual price difference was on the line sets he was looking at.
