Honestly thought those new ceramic fiber blankets were just overpriced hype until I used one on a 12-inch steam line repair in Toledo last winter.

Just overpriced hype" is what we all say until we're the one freezing our hands off on a line repair. I guess Toledo winter has a way of making believers out of us all. Nothing like real world misery to prove a product's worth. I'm glad it worked out for you before the weather got any worse.

Has anyone else ever bought a fancy tool they swore they'd never need, only to end up hugging it like a teddy bear during a blizzard? Because that's basically what happened to me with my heated vest. @diana_grant you're totally right about real world misery being the ultimate test. I mean, I bought mine as a joke after complaining about price tags all winter, then had to eat crow when my fingers turned blue on a simple pipe fix last January. Now I look like a dork but my hands stay warm, so I guess I'm the punchline here. Nothing beats that feeling of being dead wrong in the most humbling way possible.
