Had to pick between a 7018 rod and a 6010 for a tricky root pass on a 3/4 inch pipe last Friday.

The gap was a bit wide, so I went with the 6010 for its digging arc and better gap fill. It ran hot but sealed up clean on the first try with no burn-through. What's your go-to rod for a tight fit-up with a bad gap?

Yeah, 6010 is the right call for a gap like that. I'll even run it a touch hotter than normal to really wash it in there. Gets messy fast if you're not careful, but it does the job.

Mentioning you run it a touch hotter really got me. I used to baby the 6010 on gaps, worried about blowing a hole. Then I saw an old hand crank the heat up one notch and just wash the puddle into the sides. It was like watching butter melt into toast. Totally changed how I set my machine for a bad fit-up.
