DAE remember when we used to fit tubes by eye and a hammer, and I'm here to say I don't miss it one bit
Back in '09 at the plant in Gary I'd tap a tube in with a hammer and go by feel, and half the time it'd leak on the hydro test. Now I get the tube sheet cleaned and run a tube roller with a torque setting, and my rework went from 12 tubes a job to almost zero. Sure it's slower up front, but is anyone actually going back to the eyeball method on purpose?
