Chasing a pinhole leak in a 20 year old feedwater line ate my whole Saturday

Spent last weekend on a job where we could hear steam hissing but couldn't find the source. Walked that pipe section back and forth with a soapy spray bottle for close to 4 hours before I finally saw bubbles forming under a weld cap. Turned out someone had put a patch over the original crack back in 2009 and it was rusting from the inside out. Had to cut out a 3 foot section and re-pipe both ends, took another 5 hours with the fitting and welding prep. Anyone else deal with hidden patchwork on old boiler lines that never shows up on the initial inspection?
