Can we talk about ultrasonic thickness testing on boiler tubes?

I thought UT readings were just a fancy upsell until we caught a 40 percent wall loss on a superheater tube at the Gary, Indiana plant last month. Now half the crew swears by it and the other half says visual and calipers have never let them down, so where do you all land?
