Tried a 10 minute timer instead of letting everyone 'finish their turn' and game night went from 4 hours to 90 minutes
Our group has a bad habit of one guy taking forever on his turns, and two Fridays ago we sat at the table in my apartment until almost 1am on a single game of Terraforming Mars. I got fed up and grabbed the little kitchen timer I use for cooking, set it to 10 minutes, and told everyone that when it beeps your turn is over, no exceptions. The first two rounds were chaos and one buddy flipped out about 'rushing the strategy', but by round four people were actually planning ahead on other players' turns instead of staring at their cards. We finished in 90 minutes and everyone asked to keep the timer next week. Has anyone else had a group meltdown over turn timers, or did you find a less annoying way to speed people up?
