Lost $60 on a deluxe edition I only played once, here is the breakdown
I bought the big box version of a dungeon crawler last spring, the one with all the miniatures and metal coins. It cost me $60 at a local shop in Portland, and I was so hyped about the extra bits. Then we set it up one night and spent more time sorting trays than rolling dice, so we never touched it again. I tried to sell it at a swap meet last month and got offered $15, which hurt worse than just wasting the cash. Now I only grab expansions if I have played the base game at least 3 times, but my group is flaky too. Has anyone else bought a giant edition and watched it collect dust, or am I the only fool here?
Portland prices aside, that $15 offer sounds about right for resale, but the math is a little off. You didn’t lose $60, you lost $45 after the sale, plus the time sorting trays. That’s still rough, but it’s not the full sticker price. Also, that “played once” rule only works if you actually count the setup as a game, which it clearly wasn’t. My group did the same thing with a big Gloomhaven box, we set it up, ate pizza, and put it back. We finally sold it for $20 to a guy who looked thrilled, and honestly that’s the real win.
