Fell for the deluxe Kickstarter pledge on a board game and got burned hard

I backed a campaign for a game called "Gloomhaven meets Catan" and paid $140 for the all-in pledge with all the extras. The base game is fine, but those fancy metal coins and painted minis? They added nothing to how the game actually plays. I could have got the retail version for $60 and had the exact same fun. Anyone else regret throwing cash at stretch goals and exclusive content?

Those exclusive pledges" I started just buying the base retail version of games myself. Way less regret.

Did you check the actual retail price before backing? I only ask because a lot of times those "exclusive" Kickstarter pledges end up being sold at retail later anyway. From what I've seen, companies like to dangle the FOMO, but the real value is usually in the base game. The painted minis and metal coins are cool to look at, but they don't change the rules or the fun. Your mileage may vary, but I've learned to wait for the retail version of most Kickstarter games. The stretch goals often end up as expansions you can buy later too.
