Can we talk about the time I traded away my only sheep in Catan and lost the game on the spot?
Was playing Catan at a friend's place in Tulsa about 6 months ago. I had 8 points and needed one more city to win. My buddy offered me two wheat for my last sheep. I took the deal because I needed wheat for a city. Big mistake. He used that sheep to build a settlement and steal my longest road, then won on his next turn. I just sat there holding two useless wheat cards. Has anyone else been burned by a trade that looked fine until it wasn't?

Back in college my roommate Dave once traded me a sheep for two ore in the middle of a tight game. I figured I was set for a city upgrade, easy win. Turns out he had a hidden development card and flipped it into a knight, moving the robber off his best tile and blocking my only wood source. I spent the next four turns completely stuck while he built out three settlements and took the game. Dave still brings it up at every game night and I still want to throw the board at him. That sheep was mine and I know it cost me.

That line about Dave still bringing it up at every game night hits home because the same thing happens in my group. Next time somebody offers you a trade like that, ask yourself what they can do with the card the second they get it, not what you can do with yours. If the answer is steal your longest road or drop a knight on your only wood, the deal is never worth it.
