Bought the deluxe version of a game and the extra pieces never got used

I dropped $40 on the upgraded edition of a deck builder last month thinking the metal coins and bigger tokens would make game night feel special. Turns out my group just grabs whatever is closest and nobody even noticed the difference. The cardboard ones worked fine and honestly fit the box better anyway. I could've spent that money on two cheaper games that would've actually hit the table. Anyone else shell out for bling that just sits in the box?

My buddy does the same thing with fancy dice sets for D&D, buys them for the art and then grabs the same plain set every session cause it's already in his bag. I noticed it's like buying a nice kitchen gadget, the thrill is owning it, not actually using it.
