Appreciation post: my Thursday game group finally ditched the rulebook lawyer and it changed the whole table
Three years ago I joined a board game group that met at a comic shop in Sacramento, and one guy, Dan, would bust out his phone and read BGG threads mid-turn to dispute every move. It got to the point where a game of Lords of Waterdeep took us nearly four hours, and two people just quietly left and never came back. After Dan moved to Texas in March, the rest of us started meeting at my kitchen table instead, and we made a simple house rule: if you don't know it, you make a call and we move on. Our last session we finished three games in one evening, and everyone was laughing instead of tense. I get that rules matter and I'm not saying ignore the book, but some folks treat it like a courtroom. Has your group ever had to make a call like that, and did anyone get mad when you did?
