A three-hour Splendor game at Gen Con changed how I run every game night
Last August at Gen Con in Indianapolis, I sat down for a casual Splendor match with three strangers. The guy running the table used a 90 second timer for each turn, and at first I thought it was way too tight. But by the end of the game, we finished in 40 minutes instead of the usual hour and a half. Since then, I've added a timer to every game night I host, even for heavier games like Terraforming Mars. It keeps people focused and stops analysis paralysis dead in its tracks. Has anyone else tried turn timers at their table, or do you think they take the fun out of relaxed sessions?

I was a hard no on timers for years, figured they'd kill the chill vibe of game night, but after trying one on a whim for a sloggy game, I'm totally converted. It actually made people more relaxed, not less, since nobody was stuck waiting on someone else to make up their mind.
