Spent 3 months making blunt tools before a buddy pointed out my angle was 5 degrees off, has anyone else had a dumb rookie mistake that took way too long to catch?

Feel that man, I spent six months grinding my plane blades at a 35 degree bevel before someone told me I had it completely wrong. Real kick in the teeth when you look back at all that wasted time.
