Finally got a forge weld to stick after 6 months of trying

I was trying to weld two pieces of rebar together for a fire poker and after 12 failed attempts I realized my flux was contaminated with dirt from the garage floor, has anyone else had that stupid of a mistake ruin their welds?

Damn man, that's rough. Nothing worse than spending months troubleshooting just to find out it was something basic like dirty flux the whole time.

Oh man tell me about it. I finally gave up and just washed the whole board with distilled water and a toothbrush, worked like a charm.
