DAE Watching their hand hammered leaf spring go from a useless bar to a working spring in 45 minutes?
I grabbed a scrap leaf spring off a buddy's trailer last Saturday and decided to see if I could forge it out into a working spring for my kid's wagon project. First heat, it just bent like warm licorice and I figured it was a lost cause. Then I normalized it twice and worked it slow at a low orange, and by heat six it actually took a set and held a curve. Forty five minutes from start to finish and the thing springs back now, no cracks. What's your go-to steel for small springs, and do you bother with a temper or just run it as quenched?
