Coal vs propane debate, skip the arguing, check your vent first

I ran my new propane forge for 3 months and blamed the fuel every time my steel came out scaled and soft. Turned out my vent stack was 2 feet too short and the draft was pulling cold air straight across the fire. Has anyone else chased the wrong fix for a simple airflow problem?

Blamed my thermostat for a week once, turns out the furnace filter was clogged, same kinda trap.
